A few people don’t like the upcoming MH character Gigi’s design, saying her design is bland, her skin color is too much like Draculaura’s, or that she doesn’t look like a real genie, or her whole concept is cultural appropriation.

I think her design is cute as is, but I decided to do a revamp to see if she could look any different…this is still a WIP.

I did some research into genies and found that they are described in Islamic texts as being made from smokeless fire, so I thought about putting more flames into her design.

What elements could I add that would make her more of an accurate genie/jinn/djinn? What do you think?

Every single artist (or at least too many) on tumblr draws this way I swear to god. It’s like some unholy fusion of shojo manga and Adventure Time.

Why? Why do you draw figures that are pear-shaped androgynous blobs? It’s not cute; it’s a shitty style. Joints exist…limbs aren’t made of spaghetti. Faces aren’t made of rubber. Men don’t have woman hips. Noses aren’t sharkfins.

Also, STOP MAKING THEM BLUSH ALL THE FUCKING TIME. NOBODY DOES THAT UNLESS THEY’RE DRUNK AND SOMETIMES NOT EVEN THEN.

Do you ever wonder why most art school students are women, yet the major art industry jobs are still held by men?

It’s because too many female artists just stop trying when they’re “good enough” and they acquire a legion of ass-kissing fans who will never judge them.
